How to Care for Your Wooden Serving Tray

How to Care for Your Wooden Serving Tray

You have just received your beautifully crafted, CNC-machined serving tray. With its rich wood grain and textured organic edges, it is designed to be the centerpiece of your dining table or kitchen island.

Because our trays are made from real, premium wood, they are naturally porous and require a little bit of love to keep them looking pristine. With the right care, your charcuterie board will last for generations and even develop a richer patina over time. Here is your simple, step-by-step guide to maintaining your wooden art.

1. Wash Gently by Hand Never put your wooden tray in the dishwasher. The extreme heat, harsh detergents, and prolonged water exposure will cause the wood to warp, crack, and lose its beautiful finish.

  • The Right Way: After using your tray, simply wash it in the sink with warm water and a mild dish soap. Use a soft sponge or cloth to wipe away food residue.

2. Dry Immediately Wood and sitting water are not friends. After washing, do not leave your tray to air dry on a dish rack where water can pool at the bottom.

  • The Right Way: Take a clean, dry microfiber cloth or kitchen towel and thoroughly wipe down all surfaces of the board, paying special attention to the textured edges. Prop it up upright against your backsplash to ensure completely even air flow as it finishes drying.

3. Oil Regularly Think of wood like skin—it needs to be moisturized to prevent it from drying out and cracking. Washing your board eventually strips away the natural protective oils.

  • The Right Way: Every 3 to 4 weeks (or whenever the wood starts looking a bit dull and dry), apply a generous coat of food-safe mineral oil or a specialized cutting board wax. Rub it in using a circular motion with a soft cloth. Let it soak into the wood overnight, and buff away any excess the next morning.

4. Avoid Extreme Temperatures Keep your tray away from direct, prolonged sunlight, and never use it as a trivet for scalding hot pots or pans right off the stove. Extreme heat can cause the wood fibers to split.

By following these simple steps, your tray will remain a stunning focal point for all your future gatherings, cheese tastings, and family meals!
